I hate to rip off the name of a cartoon movie, but I think this little area should be called “Fern Gully.” It’s my favorite place to walk, and I’ve seen lots of wild things running about in the undergrowth. I’ve come within ten feet of an Eastern coyote, gotten skunked by Mephitid that was being shaken to death by my own dog, and stood within two feet of a fawn hidden in the undergrowth.
I guess I could call this place my little Eden. It’s where I go to connect with the biotic masses that we normally keep at arms length. It’s where I can reconnect with my basic animality and breath the fresh air and just be.
Everyone should have a place like this. I’ve traveled over a lot of the world, but I can’t think of a better place than here.
It’s where I am who I am.
So how about some photos?
Just look at the shield ferns!
And for no particular reason, here’s a photo of me:
The thing that looks like a little shack behind me is a shelter for a natural gas compressor.
And now for a photo of a much better looking creature:

Nice to see a face!
This is my first time putting a photo of myself on the blog. I’m on Facebook, but the topic of this blog isn’t me. So I don’t really need to put it on here.
I thought you put a photo of yourself in Arizona or somewhere deserty up once. In front of a tree.
Did I put that on the blog?
I can’t remember. I know it was on Facebook for time.
You are correct:

I never forget a tree.
And you still need a hat.
I have several hats. One is a ushanka.
Probably not appropriate for summer use.
It was in late December and early January when those photos were taken.
I’ve got one of those. People give me odd looks when I wear it, even in the winter.
Beautiful place! I would not want to live anywhere else either; I love the Appalachian Mountains
I’ll bet you like the Silver John stories by Manly Wade Wellman. Some of the best fantasy/mythology I’ve ever read.
