If those illiterate schmucks want to SECDEE, then let them SECDEE! ;)
We can afford to take them out of the overall gene pool.
Hahaha I can’t even say anything to this, it doesn’t deserve any comments
Haven’t we been here before–several times? That lack of attention to detail is very indicative of a certain mindset. ‘Nuff said.
Could it be they just woke up to the 23 new taxes included in the Obama PLAN?
A mindset of waking up after the party is over.
Hi cm; You can’t have public services w/o taxes to pay for them. That’s just hard reality. If people as a whole want to forego public services (like police, fire & rescue, schools, national defense) then taxes become unnecessary.
And please don’t come back w/ the Ayn Rand arguments. Society ends up paying even more dearly for social evolution than it does for “socialism.” Regardless of the political system, the bill always comes due and somebody (us) has to pay it.
Is Obama some kind of political saint? Hardly. But he’s the guy making the executive decisions in re paying for the policies determined by the legislature.
Well just who and how are people going to paythese new taxes with 20 million out of work? Sorry do not know who or what Ayn Rand is saying.
No jobs …no collection of taxes. Simple math ..common sense. Look beyond this country how simple minded people have no confidence in this economic plan? That is o.k. Americans can eat on food stamps. Our children in school can eat low energy foods and fall asleep in the classroom. Omaba and family can eat imported beef from Japan at $38.00 . This is all just following this great change in American lifestyle that promised and promised and promised.
If the Republicans in Congress had worked with President Obama to pass the several well-planned, important jobs bills that they deliberately blocked in a attempt to thwart his re-election, there would not be 20 million people out of work.
Even jobs that are the much-maligned “government jobs” help the economy. All those social workers, construction workers, teachers, etc. PAY TAXES and SPEND the money they earn; they don’t deposit it in foreign banks. They buy food, clothes, houses, furniture, toys, gasoline & cars. They go to school. They send their kids to school. They buy services from hairdressers, doctors, mechanics. They put the money they earn right back into the economy.
Simple math … common sense.
Reed had alot to do with blocking things…or did you not realize this fact?
Who is Reed?
Harry Reed
Who is that?
Sorry last name is Reidhttp://www.opencongress.org/people/show/300082_Harry_Reid
What’s he blocked?
All I’ve seen is filibusters from Repukes in the Senate.
That’s why we’re getting filibuster reform, and we’re going to pass some nice things.
I think free abortions for everyone is the first one to pass, and then we’re going to ban the Catholic Church. Or at least tax it to death.
And then sharia law’s next.
We didn’t elect our Great Muslims Messiah for nothing!
http://blog.heritage.org/2012/11/16/senator-mike-lee-argues-to-restore-debate-and-deliberation/
Where do you get this attitude:?
Because I’m tired of the Republican Party.
It’s intellectually bankrupt, and all it has is a bunch of conspiracy theories as organizing principles.
I respect– though disagree with– the Libertarian Party. At least they aren’t trying to shove religion down everyone’s throat.
cm said: “Omaba and family can eat imported beef from Japan at $38.00 .” And what do you think the Romney’s are eating, or the Buffetts for that matter? Obama didn’t get us into this budgetary mess, greed did–corporate, greed, investment greed, banking greed and individual greed. Budgetary plans that include tanking Medicare, student loan support, minimum wage, et al., are not gonna get us out of it. We need a whole new paradigm shift, one much greater than the Obamas, Romneys, Ryans, etc., can even begin to imagine.
As for Obama’s tax proposals, they rely primarily on fair-sharing capital gains (that’s money made primarily by the wealthy using other people’s money.) As stated elsewhere in this Blog, Oz has a 50% tax rate on capital gains–I don’t see their financial system falling apart because the wealthy have to pay a fair share. Take note; the only Americans who have consistently done better financially over the past decade are the very rich–they’ve never had it so good and most of them want to keep it that way. Obama (and Warren Buffet) is saying that he and others in his income bracket ought to be paying more taxes than they do. Can you honestly argue with that proposal?
The biggest difference speaking as a tax payer we are paying for a very expensive family kitchen the parallel does not compute. (overa million dollars to run the Omaba Kitchen at the White House). Self–employed individuals are different breed of American worker. While an employed individual is sitting home after an eight hour day/self employed individuals are still working. Small business owners do not put in just 40 hours a week …or eight hour days. The small margin of profits are well earned while providing jobs. We see the empty businesses and stores as they face the greatest taxes. Sorry, the government did not build the roads and businesses …the American tax payer did. Sorry police and fire protection comes from Property tax payers not the Federal Government. Taxes by American Working people provide these luxuries to everyone. Small business must have Worker’s Compensation …met employee FICA payments with equal sum…provide all kinds of insurance …the investments are hugh and generally for a growing new business years of little if any returns. Reinvesting…profits …etc. etc.
Four points cm:
1) Everybody who goes into the Whitehouse redecorates on the taxpayer’s dime. Is it right? No. Do I think that there is a lot of abuse yes. But that particular aspect wouldn’t be any different if the Romneys were living there.
2) Taxes is taxes! If the Fed doesn’t levy them, local governments will. BTW: the FBI is our Fed police force, the Forest service, FEMA, et al, provide fire and rescue service. Need I go on?
3) You’ve got a hard-on for Obama, I get it. I don’t like him either, but he’s not evil incarnate and he doesn’t think a Supreme Being ordained his ascendancy to the executive–which is a big plus in my book!
4) Check the statistics, Democratic administrations have always been more advantageous for the small businessperson, always! If you think the Neocons care about your small business, you’re kidding yourself. They’d just as soon take you over, gut your assets and send the jobs to China–thats Social Darwinism at work again.
Do small businesspeople need special considerations? Absolutely, they’re our biggest aggregate employer (our politicos and public really need to wake up to the qualitative difference between small businesses and international corps.) But happy, healthy workers improve profitability. Workers who feel they’re getting the shaft lower profitability. Do I think that the FED and local jurisdictions lay unfair restrictions on small businesses? Again, absolutely–cases in point: privately owned butcher shops that can’t afford local and Federal food-handling strictures, and microbreweries that can’t even carry the beer they brew to their own brew pub right next door but have to hire a “distributor” to do it for them. But thats not a Republican vs Democratic thing (despite Neocon press to the contrary). Its not even a Liberal vs Conservative thing (whatever those terms really mean). Its a political, or more precisely bureaucratic, thing, exercised by those in power (either party) for their own self-serving reasons. In other words you’re laying the blame at the wrong door. I know you’re frustrated, but replacing one bunch of political asshats w/ a new set isn’t gonna fix your problems.
You asked a question so I’m providing an answer from the the following on line publication: http://www.nationofchange.org/ten-numbers-rich-would-fudged-1353335225
The answer I refer to is the last in the series:
“Bonus for the super-rich: A QUADRILLION DOLLARS in securities trading nets ZERO sales tax revenue for the U.S.
The world derivatives market is estimated to be worth over a quadrillion dollars (a thousand trillion). At least $200 trillion of that is in the United States. In 2011 the Chicago Mercantile Exchange reported a trading volume of over $1 quadrillion on 3.4 billion annual contracts. A quadrillion dollars. A sales tax of ONE-TENTH OF A PENNY on a quadrillion dollars could pay off the deficit. But the total sales tax was ZERO.”
Why isn’t Greg Palast or someone on this? I have never heard figures like that before. And wow, another source of possible taxation that doesn’t break the backs of the middle class!! Let’s get to it!
Billions are no longer the mind boggling unit, trillions are.
“Just TEN Americans made a total of FIFTY BILLION DOLLARS in one year” That is obscene. According to this article, the rich are not creative, they are not even entrepreneurs either, unless self made men. Most are living on inherited wealth. They are a useless caste grabbing up too much of the capital and not working themselves, or sharing, even by paying decent taxes. They are lords above all the serfs and jerk the serfs around, but they have no king to control them with the threat of taking away their property or titles as the king deems. The lords paid far more to the king to stay in good standing than the richest American lords of wealth pay to the govt. They add nothing to the world, except to buy the luxurious version of what ever it is for sale.
Thanks for that illuminating article. The lords have never had it so good. The govt has no teeth, compared to a king when it comes to keeping lords in line….
no, dear, that is just how dumb they are
I think I am a socialist. A democrat, for sure.
Why don’t you join the forum called Political Wrinkles? It has a few Dems, but mostly people who think like you. I’ll argue you over there!
Do you completely understand what you advocate to be the future of America? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_socialism
Is this not what these individuals in photo are advocating in just different mode?
You are assuming a lot!
I put the words in separate sentences and I am not advocating a pure form of socialism, merely enough socialism to take care of the relevant infrastructure of the nation and its people.
Conservatives call that socialism, not me. Socialism in this country is when people all put something, usually specific taxes, in a pot and decide to use it for something that benefits all -from road maintenance to schools.
Medicare and SS each have their own pots that everyone pays into. And,the primary socialist act of the govt,is supporting the armed forces. We all put into that pot with the purpose of paying for our defense and congress delegates a certain, rather large, amount of our taxes to do so.
That is the kind of socialist, I am. I do not support the govt dictating personal choices, either, so I guess I have a libertarian streak. That includes pure unprocessed herbs and the right to decide, for yourself what to do with your pregnancy. Open borders are a good idea for many reasons. Nothing like open borders to honestly open up the free market and decide the real market value of things. Oh and as a corollary to that, nothing should be illegal, but.all illegal activities that harm no one but themselves, made legal and regulated-by the govt-if necessary. The black market is created by the legal people putting their heads in the sand and refusing responsibility for the underside of civilization.
Socialism is a word that has been utterly denuded of any meaning in US politics.
Socialism is okay for banks and for big-time farmers, but it’s wrong for brown and black people. The Mitthead said that all these people were getting gifts for voting for Obama.
Where’s my effin’ gift?!
You did not get a cell phone? Oh that might have been only in Ohiol.
Nice conspiracy theory there.
Downs with isms! Lets use what works and get rid of what doesn’t. Let the current political system, whatever its called (does it really have to have a name) evolve, as circumstances and experience dictate.
Come to Canada for awhile. You will like it. Then you will never want to go back to America.
Of course, at one point or another, one becomes dissatisfied and starts wishing for the enlightened sense of self-responsibility and level of personal freedom Sweden has which far exceeds the shackles of so-called “freedom” any North American has.
There are no liberals in Canada!
(So said a brilliant Youtube comment).
My wife doesn’t like cold weather dave (LOL.)
The west coast is rainy, but it’s also the mildest climate on the continent. Oh, and there’s no traffic if you’re an islander.
Obama has been saying year after year that he wants to put those taxes to the wealthiest Americans. Most recently he said that the amount in question that woudl be collected comes to about a trillion dollars? I am wondering where that number came from.
I also disagree that people making $250K are included among the wealthiest Americans. To someone on the dole, or making only 40K I am sure it SEEMS that way but for most people who have that income, they have killed themselves working probably three times the weekly hours that some other folks make, paying taxes, fees, fines, etc, to keep themselves going, often as contractors or some sort of small businessmen, or the higher level of middle management in a corporation where the amount of stress will probably eat up their profits as they land in the hospital from heart disease as a result of thier work.
Those making millions have a value attached to their work that goes beyond merely measuring what the 24 hours in a day can bring them. THey have crossed a certain time/value threshhold. Once you cross that threshhold, THEN you should be part of the “wealthiest Americans” that pay a small percentage more in taxes.
And for someone who spouted illiteracy earlier, I think I spelled a couple of things wrong here. But then I’m not displaying it on a sign in a major protest. Chalk it up to typing in a hurry. ;)
$250k sounds like low-balling to me as well. But if that $250k is coming from investments then I think it should be taxed at the same rate as earned income. I don’t think most of us begrudge those better off than ourselves having more money, we just begrudge them getting special tax breaks because of it.
With a more even-handed tax system, will the wealthy pay more taxes overall? Yes! Will it have as much impact on their ability to feed, clothe, educate and entertain themselves as it would on those in lower income brackets? No! Real numbers say that 30% of an annual income of $10,000 is $3000–leaving $7000 per annum on which to survive; while 30% of $100,000; is $30,000 leaving $70,000 per annum to live on; and so on and so on. The actual $ amount of tax paid goes up as the income goes up, but the damage done to quality of life goes down because the amount left after taxes is relatively larger. So why do the wealthy object to paying more taxes? Greed, pure and simple–I’ve got mine, screw you–that’s what Social Darwinism is all about.
They pay and have been paying by greater majority …especially small business owners around 40 per cent. Should really see the accounting in these businesses and you would get a correct viewpoint. No one minds paying their fair share.
If these states leave, they will lose all that federal money that these red states rely upon to maintain a low benefit, low wage paradise. Virtually all the states that Romney won are net “takers” from the federal trough, while the majority of the ones Obama won actually do produce most of the wealth in this country. The truth is the red states are real welfare states that are using federal money to subsidize their fantasy economies. They leave, and they won’t have that money anymore. And they will have to deal with social unrest and massive waves people leaving their states back into this country.
Well, sorry know of threeo states alone do not follow this perspective that were Blue. Maryland./ Florida and New Mexico.
In the aggregate, I am correct. Look it up.
Well friend we see on a first hand bases the cost of all the welfare program cost.. we are even paying for non citizens to get a free education,
Florida has such a drug program …free…with free medical care for homeless. New Mexico is considered the poorest state in the Union and considered even by residents to be a welfare state.
I said in the aggregate.
Can you not understand what that means?
if non-citizens are paying rent they are still paying the property taxes that fund schools- so why not go to school if you are paying for it? Also a lot of income taxes are collected from non-citizens that are never filed, so the govt keeps it all. So what’s the problem?
I live in AZ and this part of AZ was Mexico until 100 years ago. It is still more Mexican than American until you get out to the burbs. I happen to love the influences this intermingling creates. I would tear down the fence. The way it is now, It is hard to get back to Mexico, then return, so many families come up here.to live. Open borders would mean many families would not move here permanently to avoid crossing and recrossing the border.
And here we go w/ the welfare song again. What about corporate welfare? You know, the “Leave us the hell alone to do our own thing unless we shit ourselves, at which time we want you all to bail us out cause we’re just too big to fail” blues? The flip side of that LP includes a song about the big international oil companies that get by w/o paying any US income taxes at all (and yes I know that doesn’t include you.)
Bottom line, the American public heard all this crap before and during the campaign. They didn’t buy it, get over it.
Awww… I rather hope it isn’t photoshopped. As written it makes as much sense as their proposed action.
I don’t because I have to live with it!
