Lurchers

I don’t know what kind of lurchers these are, but they might be golden retriever/greyhounds, which were once a very common sort of lurcher.

lovely lurchers. ive rehomed a few red/orange ones like that. they always seem to come from hampshire, and are usually strays. we guess that they are ex gipsy dogs who have either been “lost” because they are no good or they just got away and they dont bother to look for them. They have always been lovely, good natured dogs who have gone on to make fabulous and much loved pets for there new owners. They always seem to have there front dew claws removed too for some reason, why i dont know you would have thought they would run better with them on, but there you go tradition i suppose.
Also did you know (i expect you do) that gipsys would train there dogs to go off on there own in the woods and silently trail them, so if the men were caught poaching well they didnt have any dogs with them did they so they couldnt possibly be poaching. Apparently they were very smart dogs, and from the few ive met id say that were true as they soon learn the art of laying upside down on a comfy sofa with your legs in the air, that pose seems to be a lurcher favourite. Another type of lurcher they breed a lot down there and ive rehomed a few of are scruffy rough coated ones. we had 3 in at different times that all looked like deerhound crosses, beautiful dogs , so presumbly someone down there has a deerhound. Again lovely gentle dogs probably why they “got lost” as they were no good for what they were wanted for but definatly very good at the sofa lounge position.
