This looks like a collie/golden cross.

Indeedy and what a lovely cross that usually makes. However, that’s not usually the game on this blog. It’s probably some obscure breed from foreign parts. The body shape reminds me of some of the medium sized shepherd’s dogs and village dogs you see around the Himalayas that are more collie type than Tibetan Mastiff type.

This looks like a yellow flat coat retriever, albeit a young one. In the past these were culled and I believe some of these culls went into the make up of the Golden. These days breeders find pet homes. They can’t be showed which is a shame as it narrows the genetics of the breed. Some breeders test for the yellow gene before breeding others don;t arguing they need a wider variety.

I have a magnificent yellow flat coat George who turns 4 next month.I put a pic of him near a golden on my FB a few months ago and you can see the difference particualry with the stop.

It almost looks like an Aidi, but….I’m not sure, the head seems a little feminine for a male. It doesn’t look like a Hovawart except for the thigh fluff, which is another dog I think when a golden color is referred to. I feel like I’m forgetting another possibility.

    Chinook?

I first thought Chinook, too, but there is so much variability in that breed that I could go into almost any shelter in the country and find an individual who met the criteria. I haven’t read the Chinook standard, but from the dogs I’ve seen supposedly of that breed , all that seems to be required is that it be a large dog of some golden/brown color.

    I would say a Hovaward

Sorry that should read Howawart, a German breed, as the head is Shepherd like.
Besides the gold color they come in two other colors: black and black with gold.

His face has that shallow stop that you see in flat coated retrievers, but the ears don’t look quite right for that breed; they almost look like they’re semi-erect. I’m gonna go with flat coated retriever.

    I would say Howavart

Yeah, I think maybe flatcoat is wrong. The fur looks more “furry” than a retriever’s. And there’s something about those ears…

    What is he already????
