Not really. America can’t survive a global power with this many willfully ignorant people destroying science education. Furthermore, it’s this attitude that makes demagogues possible (see the current composition of the US House of Representatives and Senator Ted Cruz).
It makes you wonder how far it will go. Back to the planets and stars revolving in their crystal spheres round the earth?
I think we are saved from this kind of nonsense getting a hold over here by the fact that all the major churches are OK with evolution. And it`s accepted as an essential part of education. That just leaves the lunatic fringe, which has no intellectual or political power.

I wish it were the case. In the US, however, we don’t have established churches. The largest protestant body in the country is the Southern Baptist Convention which is quite conservative. This is their official stance on it: http://www.sbclife.net/Articles/1999/10/sla10.asp
If they don’t believe in evolution and the princilples of selection (either natural or by man) which can be responsible for morphological changes, how do they explain the changes wrought in the shapes and forms of the domestic dog? Or any other domestic animal?
