   So cute! We also have Eastern Box Turtles here in New England, Massachusetts, USA, they must be a different variety, because Japan is far East or far West of us…

   Yet they look strikingly similar, you must be in the USA, somewhere between Southern New Hampshire, Florida, Northeast texas and Southern Michigan…it was the janise grass that threw me off…Are they wild or pets?????

     This is in West Virginia. This is the same species that is found in all of those places. The Japanese stiltgrass is an invasive species that came here from Japan.

   Staying with the Asian confusion, we have these in Hong Kong! Just yesterday I was shown one selling for 20 000$HK that’s about 2 000US. It looked exactly like this one, lots of colour, the eye was alarmingly bright. It was being sold as a pet not the pot. The turtle was very keen and took a meal worm from my fingers.

   Keeping turtles is a messy business and we already have the big headed variety in our garden in the reservoir so I passed up the offer.
