   My rottie/golden mix did that to me. I was less than amused. I know it’s working instinct, but it wasn’t one of the city pigeons. He also tries to retrieve the mice my other mutt catches, which is quite a lot less amusing because they’ll fight over it. If I could take them hunting for rabbits or birds or something, it’d be great, but there’s no such sport here.

   One of my wheaten terriers years ago would sometimes present me with a rabbit when we were out walking. I hated it because they were not killed, just disabled. I even had to resort to walking her with a muzzle!

   Goldens (and other Retievers) have been known to retrieve most anything they can get in their mouths. Alive and otherwise. Mine have brought me rabbits large and small,, woodchucks, a turtle, live mice, innumerable birds, several lost gloves and car keys, and a ham sandwich (unbitten), among other things. One of my Goldens had a special penchant for snakes. Brought me seven over one summer. Fortunately they were all non-venomous types.
