Retrievers eating blackberries

A golden, a Labrador/curly cross, and a liver curly eating blackberries:

I’ve never had a dog eat blackberries, even though they are very numerous on our property.

But I have had them eat watermelon!

My English Shepherd, Opie, loves picking blackberries from our thicket. When he begins plucking the berries from the lower branches, I know the berries are the perfect combo of sweet/tart and just the right firmness for pies and other deserts. He’ll go so far as to put his mouth around the berry and if it doesn’t pop off just right, he’ll leave the berry on the thicket for another day. If he gets one that’s too sweet or mushy, he spits it out. Nicky, ES #2, does the same with salal berries and huckleberries.

My chocolate lab picks her own strawberries. :( Took me a while to figure out what was happening to the berries — thought it was the birds.

That’s really no news; my pack of labradors eat blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and later on in the autumn they enjoy the edible mushrooms… :)

Cool. My black lab-border collie cross eats black berries and wild cherries, and deer antlers.
