Ted Kerasote’s website has been updated. Well, I got the e-mail a while ago, but I’m only now getting around to tell you about it.
He has a new book out about his new Labrador named Pukka.
The narrative is told from Pukka’s perspective, and the photos are stunning!
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention again that Merle’s Door is my favorite dog book. Not only do I love the story about a wild retriever living in the Wyoming wilderness, but I often reference the science in the book whenever I am looking into such diverse topics as dog domestication and dominance theory.
I loved Merle’s door, too. We have forty acres and I’d love to fence it all off so the dogs could roam, but it’s not practical.
I really wish he didn’t have all the stuff from Dr. Goldstein in the dog health section. Goldstein is a germ theory denialist.
Oh, yeah, and Dr. Dodd’s vaccination protocols for puppies are not based on science. 47% of the pups in a study seroconverted after vaccination as six weeks of age. That’s almost half that had low enough maternal antibodies to be vulnerable to disease at six weeks old.
I do agree with the part about getting rid of yearly vaccines.
However, in WV, we are required to get a rabies booster every two years, even though it’s a three year booster.
Rabies vac. antibodies have been measured in dogs’ blood samples after over 10 years the latest vaccination was taken. Taking the vac every two years boostes only the medical company.
I’ve been waited for this too. A year ago he told the book was being under processing and how he bought a new safety belt for the tiny new pup…
I was a bit suprised he ended up gettin a Lab, even tho’ his ex-dog was a retriever -hound -mix and, when the Kerasote himself is rather a deer hunter than a birdman.
Just finished Meryle’s Door and enjoyed it so much. Meryle was a once in a lifetime dog but then I happen to like anything with four legs and a bark. I don’t know that you’d ever find another dog that could fill his place in your heart. What a pair you were.
