The signature appears to be in German writing, so my guess is this image that depicts a scene from Eastern Europe (including the remote parts of Germany) or somewhere in Russia.

The book was published in Chicago by A N Marquis and translated from the
German edition. The illustration of the retriever is interesting.
Yes, and I’ve seen the black, feathered “retriever” in that book called a retriever, a water spaniel, and a German long-haired pointer (even though it’s mostly black).
