There is so much discussion of the specifics of what this animal is supposed to look like that you wonder if he’s talking about a biological entity or something that one would mold from a lump of clay:

Sadly, modern “purebreds” are defined by superficial traits “etched” in the Breeds’ Standards -i.e., cosmetic traits supersedes function and health!
I’m looking at the head and face on this Bordeaux to the left. Reminds me too much of where the pug and English Bulldog have gone. The bullmastiff is looking this way too. I still see bullmastiffs with longer, healthier snouts. It was all I used to see on them, so why did this suddenly become the whim for these larger types? Don’t any of these people pride themselves on or even recall, that these dogs supposedly had a working/guarding origin?
The gamekeeper’s night dog – the bullmastiff – couldn’t get very far running the estate after an intruder with a mug like that!
