Is that a natural area of young trees or is it being replanted? There is massive reaforestation going on in Britain right now, which is just as well if we are going to keep up with the effects of species loss due to disease encroachment – due of course to climate change.
You don’t have to plant trees here. All you have to do is let a pasture go fallow for 20 years and you have a forest. This particular area is just a cut in the forest to allow equipment through. This whole area is nothing but an extensive forest. Pastures and meadows are uncommon and have to be maintained to keep it from all becoming forest again.
Our climax growth is deciduous forest. The primary tree species have changed with the advent of European settlers and introduced diseases such as Chestnut Blight, but the basic ecotype type remains the same.
