It’s been raining so much lately that it’s actually quite difficult for the soil to hold tracks.

This fox may have come through only last night, but it has been raining so hard that it’s now underwater.

Hey Scottie, I love you spoor pics but would also like to see comments on why you know its a fox rather than say a small dog. Makes it more informative.

  1. It’s in a place where there are no dogs under 25 pounds.
  
  2. A red fox has a compact foot on a long leg. It’s not as spread out as a dog’s track.
  
  3. A gray fox track is compact and the same size, but it’s compact on the toes, while red fox is compact across the width.
  
  4. Coyote pups are much bigger than this by this time of year, and when they are that size they aren’t traveling.
  
  5. The biggie: the metacarpal pad is only slightly larger than the toe pads. On all the dog species in this area, the metacarpal pad is significantly larger. That pad is also circular, not lobed.
