Context, please.
Oudry was a French painter who painted lots of animal in menageries, including the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin’s menagerie. This painting is at Schwerin, so my guess is they decided to have a hyena fight that day.
If memory serves, the Striped Hyaena is not a particularly aggressive carnivore. Seems like a real mismatch.

Strange video. It would appear to have been staged. Flight would seem to have been the proper response. I wonder if the hyena was restrained in some way?
I suspect the surround ”jungle” is fencing with plants growing on it! Seems a bit straight for the real world!
