Golden retrievers and spicy food don’t mix.
Miley had some food from the local Italian carry-out, and well, it didn’t agree with her. She vomited at 5 o’clock Sunday morning, and again at 6 o’clock.
We thought it was far worse. Because she is only a little over a year old, we thought the worst. Like most semi-adult golden retrievers she has a bit of an “oral fixation.” Could she have swallowed something?
The only emergency vet is over an hour away, but when we took her there, the vet’s palpations found no foreign body.
She’s now on a dog antacid and anti-nausea pills. She was back to her normal, slightly naughty self by Sunday evening.
But she’s on boiled chicken until further notice, and no more spicy food.
BTW, she’s not overweight in the least. She weighs only 60 pounds. She runs several miles a day, most of it in pursuit of robins, mourning doves, and the melanistic gray squirrels that live here. She lacks the real drive to be a good working retriever, so she’s a pet and general farm dog.

Hate it when that happens.
