I’m sure this is the only reasonable explanation of this data, and we need to change all our laws to give bigfoots full personhood, including voting rights.

Butsev is famous for examining the remains a man who was supposedly part Almasty (a supposed relict neanderthal).
He also stayed with that woman in Tennessee who had bigfoot friends who would come by her back door and ask for garlic.
That’s where the samples came from. The woman who gives them bagels.

That was pure sarcasm. There was some woman in Tennessee who claimed to be friends with a whole clan of bigfeet. They would come by the house ad ask (as in speak in English) for garlic.
Why Garlic? Were they at war with the vampires?
The garlic keeps them from getting too sparkly.
The problem w/ cryptozoological creatures and so-called “paranormal” (by definition, if it exists its normal) phenomena, is that the most vociferous debaters tend to represent the extremes on the spectrum of belief. For true believers, no amount of logic will sway their belief, for extreme skeptics, no amount of evidence will be sufficient to put their doubts to rest. Both groups belong to the “My mind is already made up, so don’t confuse me w/ the facts.” school of non-thought.
Bottom-line? The jury is still out pending peer review. Even if peer review of the DNA evidence pans out, true empirical tests/studies w/ suitable blinds, may be impossible. The questions will still remain: where are the bodies/skeletal remains, where is the scat, and where are the nests/homes of these reputedly large creatures? Why have none of our trigger-happy hunters bagged one? As ever, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Ahhh, Bigfoot. The more I know of Bigfoot, the less likely I believe them to exist. Why hasn’t some hunter stumbled across a dead one at the bottom of a cliff? (They bury their dead, say the True Believers.) Hmm. People bury their dead too, but we excavate other people’s cemeteries all the time. No juvenile Bigfoot killed on any of the major highways that bisect all “Bigfoot regions”. No dead Bigfoot washed up in floods. No Bigfoot fossils. No unambiguous DNA evidence, anywhere. No clear photos, despite thousands of “sightings” & millions of cellphone cameras in the country. No juveniles treed by hunting dogs (oh, I forgot, dogs are too afraid of Bigfoot track them; they cower away in fear, even experienced bear-and cougar hounds). Several of the most famous Bigfoot propagandists over the years have admitted to participating in hoaxes, even those associated with the Patterson/Gimlin film (they must all be lying).
I won’t say “Bigfoot absolutely do not exist”; for one thing, it’s awfully hard to prove a negative, and it’s true that absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence. But the absence of evidence, and the extreme lengths to which the True Believers will go to try to turn natural phenomena into Bigfoot evidence, make Bigfoot a hard pill to swallow. I believe that the P/G film was a lucky hit with a not-too-clever hoax, and that the “evidence” produced since then is either outright fake, or wishful thinking. Sure, there may be some big animals yet to be found and described in North America. I just don’t think that Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Skunk Ape are among them.
Come to think of it, given the size of my son’s feet it could make one wonder.
We are having two of them visit this Christmas.
i note that my previous post didn’t seem to make it on the blog. The odds are very high this is a hoax. However, one does wonder why neither Neanderthal nor Denisovan made it to the Americas when contemporary mammals (wolves, mammoths, etc) seem to have manage to cross back and forth. IF a Neanderthal or Denisovian remnant had hung out say, in the Amazon or Everglades, they might well avoid detection for some considerable time — many folk might just take them for H. Sapiens (including any bones). The problem is that “Bigfoot” is generally portrayed as some giant gorilla type animal, not some strange “human” tribe. One also wonders if some of the tales of “giants”, “trolls” etc might not have had an origin in a remnant (or even high percentage hybrids) of Neanderthal or Denisovans. The Flores hominids are generally called “hobbits” — but really, they remind me of the old tales of dwarves, goblins and elves. Human mythology is often based on things like finding dinosaur bones. One does wonder if any was based on actual encounters with our cousins.
