This was predation and not just a fight. Although the opossum has teeth, its abnormally sluggish not equipped at utilizing them for defense. Their playing opossum ability makes matters worse as the animal loses consciousness and becomes more vulnerable. This is why the Raccoon did not bother subduing it prior to tearing into its belly and probably consuming the Marsupial’s pouched offspring. or why many people brag about their small dogs killing them.”

  When I watched the video as it looked like the raccoon kept going for the opossum’s belly, so I figured it was after it’s young.
  I didn’t realize opossums were so incapable of defending themselves, however.
