Here’s Miley the deer-taming retriever trying to whisper a foal. She is doing everything to show him that she’s not a threat. She’s lying down and smelling the grass– just to show him that she’s not a predator out to kill him!
Of course, horses evolved on this continent with dire wolves nipping at their heels, and somewhere in his brain, a golden retriever is a fell beast that seeks to do nothing but evil to the horse kind.
I think this may be where she learned to tame deer. LOL.
Golden retrievers have a lot of social intelligence. That’s why they are so popular as pets and working dogs.
This is why I like them.

I accept what you say and who would want a troublesome breed, except that many people are not tuned in to such advice, presumably up for a challenge, or in denial (or not doing their homework) and getting a breed which, may have inherited health problems going forward, or has aggressive inclinations, escaping and running off tendencies, liking to bark a lot, or issues such as shedding or needing more grooming or more exercise and socialising than an owner is prepared for etc etc.
Basically many people just choose what they like the look of I suppose and then try to manage the consequences of their inappropriate choice. Often they unwisely just didn’t anticipate the misery of their poor puppy of whatever breed left alone while they are at work.
In our past, which of us has not been guilty as charged regarding at least one or two of these prerequisites for happy dog ownership?
Unfortunately, even the best circumstances change and and well loved dogs end up in rescues. Fortunately for many of these there will be a new home to go to, but too often, as we know, that isn’t the case.
At one end of our street there are a couple of horses, and at the other a herd of about 6 goats. Our golden loves to go visit both, but especially the goats. Neither the horses nor the goats seem particularly afraid of the dog at all and come right up to the fence to check each other out. But then the dog is on a leash and there is a fence, and all the animals are tamed. I must say that the deer that visit our yard every night aren’t so happy when the dog is out.
