Wow.
When he says, “We only allow the biggest adult males” to interact, does he mean dogs? Bears? Both? I’ve listened a couple of times, and I can’t tell. (Clearly the dogs in the video are males.)
I would think keeping it an all-male party a pretty smart thing, but I’m not positive that’s what he’s saying.
It may be the male bears are less likely to show aggression towards the dogs. After all, they don’t hibernate or have cubs in the summer. Polar bears are as strange as pandas– just in the other way.
I listened to it again. I do think he’s referring to bears and dogs both.
It’s sort of mesmerizing.
I first saw this in National Geographic magazine about 12 years ago.
