even as overweight as he was, he could have caught that actor if he wanted to! IRL such a bear certainly would have.
The canid looks to be at least 2 different animals, one of which is a Malamute mix. According to IMDB, the mix was named Jed.
When I was in the arctic I got to watch a wolf harass a mother bear with cub, just circling and feinting attacks, keeping out of reach. We speculated that there was a wolf den in the area and the wolf was just making sure the bears kept moving on, which they did. It was like Animal Kingdom, only better… no fakery!

I do think there is another wolfish Malamute cross that is substituted in some scenes.
