I read all the James Herriot books when I was in the eighth grade.

I’ve been to England, but only the south of the country.

Those cattle in the film are shorthorns, but those of that coloration are called “roan Durhams” in my part of the world.

This show is available to watch instantly on netflix. So one weekend I sat in front of my computer screen forever and watched most of the first season. After about 12 hours I started hating everyone on the show. I found one of the books in a thrift store but I haven’t gotten over my annoyance enough to read it.

Ashley, after 12 hours straight, I’d hate just about anything!!! I LOVE this show, and even moreso the books! I have read and reread all of them repeatedly–I will periodically go on James Heriot read-a-thons and read them all back-to-back(but not for 12 hours straight!). The books are so great because each chapter is a seperate little story, so they are very easy to read, put down for awhile, and pick up again later. Having worked for a few years with an old-fashioned country vet many years ago, I could really relate! Watching the show filmed on location gave me a real appreciation for the descriptions of the Yorkshire countryside, too. I am disturbed, however, in that all the characters seem to drive most unsafely on the wrong side of the road……
