This dog never completed her full championship, which, in the KC, has a working requirement.
But she is shown with a cock pheasant in her mouth, so she obviously was good for something.
Also, she was not a particularly large dog. She was born in 1959, sort of toward the beginning of the rise in popularity of the cream-colored dogs in Britain.
She had the big English eyes and heavy bone.
Years ago, friend of mine had a bitch sired by a Boltby dog out of another import. This bitch was an excellent hunting dog, fearless in any kind of cover. She regularly worked in Lake Erie as well as the marshlands. Her offspring won at shows, hunted, and ran in field trials as well.
At one time British show dogs could only earn their field qualifier at a field trial (which had limited entries). The Show Gundog Working Certificate came along later, and gave more opportunities to qualify. And even many British retrievers without such formal qualifications regularly “pick up” at shoots.
I think this bitch was an exceptionally cute dog…
