This is the mother of the golden boxer. She was about 13 in this photo, and managed to make it (barely) to her 14th birthday.
She had no interest in retrieving at all.
She also had a deformed larynx that kept her from barking any louder than a whisper.
She also had a kind of topknot on her head. It’s not as clear in this recumbent position, but when she was standing, the hair on top of her head stood up in an almost Krameresque fashion.
She was the mother of Kizzy, the golden boxer.
Although she has a brown nose here, it was originally quite black. She was most likely a homozygous black-skinned yellow, for all of her puppies with the brindle boxer were black.
Love those old gray faces…. While her nose may appear to be “brown”, it is actually a faded black; you can still see the black eyerims and black edging to the nose leather. No doubt the inside of the lips would also show black pigmentation. “Faded black” only looks brown due to changes in the pigment granules: genetically, still black (B), not brown (bb).
