If you outlaw abortions, you will not end abortions.
You will end safe and legal abortions.
That’s why I don’t support banning abortion.
I’d rather they be safe and legal rather than dangerous DYI jobs performed by some moron.

Yes, we all know how well outlawing something works in this country as witness Prohibition and the War on Drugs. If you want to reduce an activity that you feel is reprehensible, the anti-smoking campaign is a much better model.

This was a very powerful argument when abortion was legalized in the first place.
It was not only a powerful argument it was based on the reality of women dying from botched abortions. Many young girls and women died from inflection.
Beleive the issue arose again when a 17 year old girls in love with a 21 year old man became pregnant. Her parents charged him with statuatory rape.
You know, I used to believe that until I researched it. I came up with a lot of rhetoric but not a lot of evidence.
Hmmm…or maybe it will lead to less women getting abortions in general. Medical professionals still provided illegal abortions “under the table,” and even today you will find abortion doctors who hurting girls and women. Cases in point–Drs. Kermit Gosnell, Steven Brigham, and Nicola Riley. Just as there are cases of women getting abortions legally and being hurt, there will be cases of women getting abortions illegally and being hurt.
But perhaps if abortion is illegal and more difficult and dangerous to obtain, women will be less incentivized in participating in behavior that increases the risk of pregnancy or they may be more incentivized in giving their unwanted babies up for adoption.
Like I tell everyone: if you are pregnant and don’t want your baby, give it to me. It could be no worse than ending up dead in a trash can.
