Somebody did kill the most famous wolf of Yellowstone very recently though.

On the subject of wolves, an article in Saturday’s Daily Telegraph said that the wolf population in Europe is increasing apace, helped by conservation measures and, for example, a pack has been seen “hunting prey within 15 miles of Berlin.”
Yes. People need education in this new old situation.
In the 1800s, there where about 8000-10 000 wolves in Finland (on the base that in the year of 1856, some 2100 wolves were killed and paid for).
In the early days, young kids were commonly put to work alone as shepherds in distant fields. Many families did not even have fire arms. Still there are relatively few accounts of the harms made by the wolves then.
But today – see the newpapers – we have about 150 – 180 animals in the country – and I have already hundreds of cuttings ! (But nothing much happened).
Now, people go crazy if there’s one jogging somewhere sometimes:

In that case the wolf jogged along the field – forest frontier, about 30 meters away from a farmer.
In the article, the farmer says: “the wolf really thought I would have made a great lunch, but luckily I have my tractor near and ran to it”.
That’s nonsense, of course. It just that the farmer got very scared, because he is not used to the wolves and doesn’t know them.
It’s also nonsense claim a healthy wolf should be fearing humans. Some are, some not – but no one will learn, if they’re always killed, if come in sight.
An animal being curious / working / self assure towards men, it’s NOT the same as being aggressive or “thinking to get a lunch of the man”.
Even a resent thesis can prove it.
In a recent Finnish study, two distant temperament classes were found amongst grass-hopper. One type happily search the new given environment, and the other only acted aggressively.
Of course these were insects, not comparable to carnivora mammals, but it may give some sense and direction when concidering the wolf behaviour, too.
Yeah….those blond wolfs knoock ya down and lick ya to death.
