As we all know, the ‘green’ illusion comes via a refraction of light from feathers shaped in a certain way.
And here I thought he was just oxidating.
I just read the answer to that question. The teal green color comes from sunlight illuminating gas.
The gases are cyanogen and diatomic carbon – both of which glow green in sunlight in a vacuum.
As the body warms up, and the icy core melts, green gases are released into the tail.
We will be passing thru bits of green gas from the tail in mid January.
Some reports say that by then the green gases might light up the night sky. Myself, I doubt that it wil be that obvious, but one souce thinks the green gas particles from the tail will outshine the moon.
According to universetoday.com and other sources, ICON will be in the lion soon, and then in the virgin after that.
Oh wait! You all are birdwatchers not comet watchers? Well, now you know why the comet ICON’s tail glows green, which constellations it will be in, and when Earth will pass thru the dregs of the comet’s green tail. Whatever else could you possible think I was writing about?
