And I thought they ate strange things at West Virginia critter dinners.
I bet these burgers are mostly beef.
I guarantee you that lion meat on its own isn’t going to be all that palatable.

Ummmm. I noticed the Guy interviewed eating the burger looks like he ate his own child. In fact, where’s the kid sitting next to him early in the segment? And I suppose the fact that the Lion Meat was mixed in with regular ground beef just voids any benefit to being a leaner less fatty alternative to the old fashioned american gut busting burger.
So it should be fitting that they interview a Fatass to promote this for more of his kind. Perhaps he’ll have a coronary sooner than later??? He was showing signs of labored breathing while talking….or was that him with his mouth full of ?????
In any case….if you put a slight spin on this concept. It is one way to lower the feral cat population. ;-)
I don’t think the FDA will allow you to feed alley cats in restaurants. That’s just a hunch.
Yet they allow farm raised Lions. What a world we live in.
Take those alley cats and put them in quarantine for a year. cleanse their systems. And then put em in a meat grinder. ;-)
Yummy.
I think someone should bounce this idea off of “Mighty Dog”.
Lion meat is a byproduct of the guy in IL who raises them for pelts. He typically throws out the carcass, but occasionally sells it to an exotic meat purveyor.
Make raising lions in captivity for fur illegal, by all means! but it’s just stupid to whine about the meat being sold after the fact. Animal rights peoples arguments are usually devoid of logic and boil down to protecting “cute” in most cases. A lion burger has ZERO impact on the species.
You are correct. Up until the point it becomes a popular fad. Then farm raised Lion just like Farm raise Gators etc etc for their meat becomes more commonplace.
Sort of like purebred dog fads. Not a problem until the popularity of one breed kicks it into overdrive.
S-
Alligator populations have exploded at exactly the same time farmed “fried gator tail appetizers” or whatever the hell they call it has become popular on menus. So that is not right.
There are about 1.5 million wild alligators in FL alone. For an animal that matures at over 9 ft, that is a ton.
Okay I’ll correct myself….
It doesn’t warrant farm raised Lions until it kicks in as the latest fad food.
As for the Fried Gators…Yummy…NOT… now lets see if it kicks in and puts an endangered species on the menu right beside them, shall we?
If Fat ass tells his buddies and they tell their buddies. Hmmm.
Let’s play exotic cuisine pyramid. In this world you never know.
I’m not against it.
But it’s obviously not an efficient meat to raise.
Most captive lions are of no recognized subspecies and provide nothing to the wild populations in terms of conservation value.
I don’t know what lion meat would taste like, but I would want a lot of ground chuck mixed in, just to be safe.
I will say that barbecued black bear is quite good, if you know how to prepare it.
By the way, that’s not a typo.
It is not “loin meat.”
It is actually lion meat.
In PA the dish in question is called “Scrapple”. Mostly pork grizzle scrappings from all the “leavins” on the griddle.
Ummmm.
I hear it tastes like Lion.
Lion meat has been served in restaurants before, with the same AR resistance.
In FL: http://www.wildlifeextra.com/go/news/lion-

and in Philadelphia: (gourmet style), and I don’t mean the bacon bra ;)

I wonder if extra nutrition can be gained from eating an obligate carnivore?
I once had gator burger at a roadside stand in S FL. Threw it away after one bite, tasted like peppered rubber.
I got talked into trying it again at a gourmet restaurant.
Best gator ribs I ever had, but was too pricey considering they tasted a lot like regular ribs.
I fixed the link for the article on the FL restaurant that once served lion meat. http://tinyurl.com/24cp43q
