If you do anything that is perceived to be out of the mainstream, beyond the pale, just not on, possibly awful, could be horrible, pick your pejorative, (whether it really is, or is just perceived to be) people will talk about you.
When this happens, you can do one of four things:
- Engage the public and lay out the facts that are available. This will allow people who have at least half a brain and who do not let other people dictate their opinions to decide whether your assertions are acceptable or not. A dialogue can be carried out, questions can be asked and answered. Misconceptions can be reconciled, false information laid to rest, and you may even learn something from each other.
