Dewclaws on the hind feet are quite common in certain breeds/mixed breeds. Why would one think this not a dog?

Quite weird indeed. But judging from the way it looks, it is a dog, no doubt. I agree with MRS on why would one think that this is not a dog at all.

My Saluki mix looks a lot like this when she is asleep on the floor, but with more hair. She has dewclaws too.

I see a fair number of rear dewclaws here in Europe.
