   Well, it’s OBVIOUS I would think, that this dog is 1/2 Greater Pyre-sneez and 1/4 Saarplaninanananitzzz and 1/4 Akbasher(“Ak” being the Turkish term for coyote, of course…)

   I vote for an Old English Sheepdog. For one thing, they were thought to be a guardian type for a long time. And while inaccurate (but so is “ralph”), Sam has the “bangs” and “bob tail” of an OES. And it’s a breed Warner Bro would have heard of (even if they didn’t necessarily know it well).

   Obviously Ralph is one of those “red wolves” that are really part coyote though. Probably a nephew or something of Wile E. He and Sam have a much more “professional” relationship than the coyote and the roadrunner though.

     The South Russian ovtcharka may be a relative of the OES, but I’ve read no confirmation on this.

   These old american cartoons are amazing good.

   Disney hired many European emigrants so they brought their European knowledge and trad. with them. Also, Disney himself was quite into the European art & history.
   Wonder if the Warner had the same trends?

   To me it looks like an ovtcharka – even his ears are high-set, like in the real breed.
