This great egret is in the pond all day. It is a relatively tame bird, and I can get quite close. It’s quite a good model.

I used to live near a pond that Great Blue Heron’s visited. I loved to watch them. The way they moved so slowly or didn’t move at all for the longest times but then could strike at amazing speed. They were very wary, you couldn’t approach at all. Even though the winters in NC aren’t that cold I used to feel sorry for them standing in the cold water with those skinny legs >g< and I never got used to the way their legs bend "backward" at the knee. I could spend all afternoon watching them.
