Your ducks and their pond, from what one can see, look handsome and healthy whereas a couple of village ponds around here have become overcrowded, looking polluted and void of vegetation. Part of the problem seems to be that these ponds have been largely wired off to prevent the entry of foxes and rats. and numbers of ducks in them have not been kept at a sustainable level. It defeats the object of enhancing the appearance of the village and not a pretty sight. However, there are also village duck ponds around the upper Thames and surrounding Chiltern hills which are not like that, I’m glad to say.
A few miles from here is the town of Aylesbury which is historically home to the famous Aylesbury Duck variety and near to where they are still being kept commercially. We had ‘aromatic’ duck at home last night, but since it was bought at Marks and Spencer we’ve no idea where it came from..
