They look very much like American coonhounds. Have you seen the pictures of the lion hunter in Arizona whose hounds treed a Jaguar? That would be a surprise! http://www.malpaiborderlandsgroup.org/myspecies.asp?speciesID=32%3B
The article the photo comes from calls them a pack of bluetick and treeing Walker hounds and makes some comments about different behaviors with the leopard vice racoons. It makes interesting reading and raises some speculation regarding breeds like the ridgeback that at least supposedly were used in a similar task.
