I never would have thought porcupines would have been that responsive or playful.
This image totally changes the way I view them!
I just thought of them as fisher food, and dogs shouldn’t eff with them.
I believe the porcupine once ranged into West Virginia, but it’s not here now.
I’ve never seen one here.
We have fishers, but no porcupines.

Didn’t you once said that they are plenty like rats, and have the same kinda status in US? That is not right, as we here can see.
It’s actually a big rodent. It’s the second largest rodent in North America after a beaver. (The biggest beavers in North America are as big as your dog!)
The have quills on them, and they can jam them into a predator, like a dog.
The quills will actually work their way into you after they’ve been jammed in.
(They don’t shoot their quills.)
I don’t know how far you are from northern Pennsylvania, but those greyish looking lumps along the road are roadkill porkies.
They aren’t rare along some roads.
It lookes like they’ve shaved the long quills from his rump (or they wouldnt be able to handle him, even with gloves on).
My dog has had run ins with these. It took me two hours to remove 23 quills from his face. The ones we have around here dont seem to get that big.
