   Ah, just rewatched Journey of Natty Gann recently… probably the best thing Disney did in decades. No obnoxious kid actors. I’d say it stands the test of time! Really!

   Haven’t had much luck trying to dig up information on Jed.

     Jed is an unverified LOW content wolfdog, guestimated to be a 25% mix. However I think he’s even less wolf than that. Jed was owned and trained by Clint Rowe.
     Clint appeared in the film as the guy with the whip.

   I love this movie. I love the actress, I love the ‘wolf’, which has a lot less fuzzy-woo than you’d expect from Disney, and I had the hugest crush on young John Cusack.

   According to friends of mine who worked at Wolf Park in Indiana, and who actually visited Jed and his trainer Clint Rowe in California, Jed is(was) half malamute, one quarter wolf, and one quarter Belgian Shepherd(or maybe it was one-half Belgian, and one-quarter malamute, one quarter wolf–but only a quarter wolf, regardless). Apparently, Belgian Shepherd X Malamute crosses often produce VERY “wolfy” offspring, even without any wolf blood added whatsoever! I love this movie and the first Disney “White Fang” which Jed also starred in–although some VERY dissimilar animals were used to portray White Fang in that movie–Jed was getting older by then and not up to a lot of the more physiacal aspects of the role…..

     Hey, do you know if Jed was buried and where? Also, do you know anything about his owner Clint Rowe. I have spent the last hour trying to find out where Jed the wolf was buried. Any information would help. Thanks.

   I just spent the last two hours doing a search on Clint Rowe and could not believe what little I found on the man. There was zero information, no pictures of him, only actor or animal trainer information in the form of past movies. That’s a real shame! The man is unique and unlike any other trainer I have ever met. Why? He was/is way ahead of his time when it comes to dogs. Very few would understand what that means and perhaps that is why he would be difficult for the average person to interview. Maybe he had avoided interviews knowing few would understand his incredable journey and experiences.

   I met Clint while working for the Canine Reporter Magazine in Salt Lake City while covering Utah’s first sheep herding trial back in the late 80’s. Clint and I talked for quite some time waiting for the fog to lift so the trial could begin. Bag pipes could be heard in the background as Clint shared his incredable experiences regarding “Jed” his wolf dog and his Border Collie “Mike” who performed in the movie Down and Out in Beverly Hills. Anyway, I won’t bore any of you with those details unless you are interested in reading about them. In the mean time, I just wanted to express my great sorrow having learned such a great trainer remains hidden from view. That shouldn’t be.

   PS. Jed is a pure wolf not a cross breed.

   Good website – thanks for posting it. I knew there were anatomical differences between wolves and dogs, but this gives much more specific information.

   Le chien loup hybride, ou, chien malamute, reste une créature a part entière pour beaucoup, 50% chien, 50% loup et 25% malamute, tout un mélange mixte, Jed, nôtre star a 4 pattes en faisait sans doute partie à l’époque, de son temps les chiens qui jouaient dans les vieux films n’avaient semble t’il plus ou moins cette aspect physique d’une transparence assez rare, mélangeant a divers races proche de celui du loup, je n’ai eu connaissance de jed, que dans le film la chose ( the thing ) sortie en 1982, où le chien était la co-vedette du début du film, c’était certe un bel animal mais pas un mutant.

   Hi Jed I see positive points of life in the movie THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN and my granddaughter learned a few things from you, paying close attention to your actions. The 2 of you were born on different days, but dear Jed, it’s BALTO and you too Jed who have clearly taught my granddaughter who’s 24 this year 2014. she’s a fan of yours as well Jed not only BALTO’S.

   Right Jed you’re in Heaven with your cousins now, but Jasmine would have enjoyed meeting a brave mixed breed animal like you. Jasmine my 24 year old granddaughter easily understands, you wolves, huskies, malamutes, Eskimo dogs, Native American dogs who love to see your wolf family, and wolfdogs too, she can clearly see what your main values of life are. She wishes she could be a heroine for your wild cousins, by doing something that would stop the scary hunters. the wolf is the animal she thinks of as her totem. She’s had vision of your wolf family Jed, it’s Jasmine’s SPECIAL NEEDS CLASS stuff that block her from this serious emotional dream, sorry love both of you historic dogs Jed and BALTO. You’re in Heaven but Jasmine and I sure wish the 2 of you pure luck for selling your movies. I agree with you 2 REACH FOR THE LIGHTS AND WITH WISDOM AND BRAVERY FIND YOUR PLACE. OU, OU, OU, OWOO!
