   Or a Hovawart. Which also comes in golden and in black-and-tan. The golden colored ones are otten mistaken for very large Golden Retrievers. More of a guard dog temperament, however.

     I saw a lot of Hovawarts in Germany. They are very much larger than goldens.

     They also bark with a “German shepherd accent.”

     They sound just like a German shepherd when they bark. I can pick a German shepherd out of crowd by its bark, which is quite nasally.

       So I saw this morning a Golden Retriever that was easily 100lbs. or more. It was a light colored retriever and I was in a neighborhood of homes that are worth upward of a million dollars so I know that it came from one of our state’s notorious conformation breeders. There I was with my 58 lb Golden hanging her head out the window with her shorter body coat looking for a squirrel or other wildlife to point and the woman walking this enormous Golden with the long open coat beaming at me like she was holding a “Mercedes” version of the breed…. I was having one of those reality check moments as I sat in my car with my GRCA cap on my head… Wow, what variety in this breed… My male who is 74 lbs I know is over sized but this dog made my male look like a peanut.
