Laikas bay polar bear

These laikas chased this huge polar bear away from a weather station on Bely Island off the coast of Siberia’s Yamal Peninsula.

Laika says to polar bear, "Don't be a hata!"

   This one picture captures the plight of polar bears as an endangered species. Climate change / global warming is leading to starving polar bears that is leading to human-bear confrontation and cannibalism.

     Well, human-bear confrontation is no news .
     It has been happening for tens of thousands of years – before the modern times when the humans over-populated the world and thus made the living for the big beasts hard.

   There are a couple of videos out there regarding dogs and bears (mostly grizzly or black) but the use of dogs to drive off bears is done in the US in some areas to deal with problem bears. There’s a very few videos out there of wolves confronting bears. Mostly the wolves give way — but not when they are defending home ground like the den.

     I think it is on this website that a Canadian from BC advised that dogs are routinely used to scare off bears in that province.
