     Panthera leo atrox… An actual subspecies of lion found in the Americas but is now extinct.

     Not Puma concolor, which isn’t even a big cat.

     Big cats are in the clade that includes the genus Panthera, the two species of clouded leopard (which are smaller than cougars), and the snow leopard, which is actually very similar to the most primitive of the true big cats.

     Cougars are most closely related to the jaguarundis, which are not jaguars, and both are closely related to cheetah.

     I will NEVER use the term “mountain lion’ to describe Puma concolor. I call them cougars.

   Yes, I called them “cougars” too, until I started to get non sequitur replies. To many younger people, “cougar” means “an older woman who likes to have sex with young adult men”.

   I’m not sure if the big kitties are pronounced “pyouma” or “pooma”, but I’d rather mispronounce than to convey the wrong meaning.

   ” Do you like cougars?” Is going the way of “Do you feel gay tonight.”

     To me, it doesn’t mean that! LOL

     I saw this show on my TV guide channel “Cougar Town,” and I thought, “Reality show about those cats in an urban environment?”

   But do you know what a “waternimfen”is?

   I have a new tablet, and can’t do much with it yet, so no link or cut n paste, but this will be worth your effort:

   I’m guessing that “waternimfen” is “water nymphs”? Beautiful dogs!!! but Miley has the kindest eyes, she looks so gentle.
