A very sound specimen of a breed I really like a lot wins BIS at Westminster:
Not complaining.
I wish the AKC allowed black roan in this breed though.

Why ?
Because black is part of the breed.
If you look at this breed in Europe, black roan is very common. It’s also quite common in the Deutsch Drahthaars that bred to the German standard in the US and Canada.
There you go, you learn something new every day – to be honest over here, I’ve never seen black roan in the breed, and my dad and I were breeding GSP’s back in the 70’s.
My Opa retired to the Poconos of Pennsylvania back in the 70s. He was a deer hunter so did not use dogs. However, many of his friends who hunted birds, owned GSPs without ever setting foot in a dog show or an AKC trial. They just hunted the dogs. Many were black roans.
A lot of folks of German descent settled in that area, as they have so many parts of PA. Those dogs were a part of the culture they brought with them.
I have a friend with a very nice German short haired pointer. Maverick is a very good hunting dog. He has a nice temperament too.
