Most beavers in West Virginia don’t build dams or lodges. They merely utilize the river banks.
This particular one was filmed in nearby Southeastern Ohio.
The default for a beaver is to use the bank, but if the water levels are too low and the soil on the bank is too shallow, they will build a lodge.
That’s interesting. The similar European Beaver also includes “bank den” beavers. I had not known that the two species were different until I looked it up.
