   Even though this movie is full of innaccuracies(as opposed to what the Adamsons REAL experiences were), I still love the movie, and the Adamsons DID live amazing lives with animals in the bush(I prefer George’s books to Joy’s, but I like them all). Hokey and parodied though this theme and movie can be now, it did bring up real issues that were just beginning to be considered by the general public at the time, and for the time, it was about as realistic as an animal themed movie got! I actually saw this movie when it DEBUTED in the theatres as a kid(I guess that dates me!), and I LOVED it! In the final analysis, I admire the heck out of the Adamsons for trying what was considered impossible, and then continuing to support Elsa the remainder of her life, which assisted by humans as it was, WAS certainly much better than a life in a zoo(and that’s coming from a zookeeper), and wasn’t necessarily shorter–I know of a zoo lioness that just died of cancer, much younger than Elsa when she died(therefore zoo life is not always one of increased longevity).

     I don’t remember why I felt the movie was so sad, but I remember it, and the song, as making me feel sad.

     I did enjoy “Elephant have Right-Away” said to a sign in Africa advising that it is best not to try to ram elephant out of your way – they sometimes push back.

     It is a sort of blog in a book about some of the funny and interesting things that happen to a couple of African photo safari guides in the 1950 – 1970? era.
