   You can SEE the ectropion in that video. But I have to admit, my dogs’ faces explode when they run around in an air conditioned hall for a few minutes too. I literally have to scoop it all up in a bucket and carry their faces out of the building too. So I can sympathize that it’s just so tough to keep a face on a dog these days.

   Unbelievable. Well, almost. The bald-faced lying of the breeder is really something. I’m highly skeptical of any breeder’s claims if we haven’t seen the official documentation from the examining vet. Pretty easy to claim you ‘was robbed’ – see all the ‘old eye injury’ stuff and how quickly people have jumped in to support the claims, without one shred of proof. You only have to look at the utter dishonesty from the Clumber owner. It’s my guess that once confronted with the evidence, she’ll claim she ‘didn’t understand’ or ‘didn’t know’. The dog is clearly suffering ectropion, any fool can see that – except maybe the breeder and her supporters.

   The other thing that gets me is the ridiculous reliance on judges that give prizes as ‘proof’ that your dog is okay, and moaning about having ‘clear’ eye certs, when that’s an entirely different test. A bit like saying you shouldn’t fail your English exam because you got a pass in maths. The cruelty of having a spaniel with baggy eyelids seems completely lost on them – they just don’t see it. Also the ‘they were in the ring for an hour, they were a bit tired’. A working dog tired after being in the ring for an hour? If true, there’s an alarm bell right there.Good on you KC for finally standing up for the dogs themselves. As for people like the Clumber breeder, yes, please do stay away. Along with those supportive friends who also seem to care nothing for the actual welfare of the dog. ‘Fit for function’ is a joke.

   The judges that reward dogs with obvious problems should get the boot, as they are the biggest part of the whole problem. If the dogs aren’t given prizes, then the breeders wouldn’t expect to win and wouldn;t breed those traits. I’d like to see a ‘shame’ list for any judge that gave this dog top honours.
