It’s a southern elephant seal, not a walrus.

It all boils down to sex again. He is a young male. He has no sexual competitors, but those cars are big and solid enough to stand in for them.

I have seen this in my rams, who, with no male competition, were happy to spend time head-butting trees, and even a brick wall, and seemed to get a great deal of satisfaction from it.

Thanks God he sees them as competitors and not sex objects like Kakapos do to humans ;-)
