   This doesn’t surprise me at all as Saints have a fantastic tracking ability and all the physical accoutrements usually considered desirable in scent hounds.

     A lot of accounts talked about what great retrievers they were.

     Some authorities even placed them with the spaniels.

     Really big spaniels.

       I suspect that that’d depend on the individual dog. Our first Saint, Toby, loved to swim and was a natural retriever–in fact she insisted that you took what she brought back to you–so she probably would have made a good water dog. Our Sammie, on the other hand, avoided water like the plague (he also would have been just as likely to roll on a dead bird as retrieve it. LOL) Interestingly, neither dog was the least bit disturbed by loud noises–Sammie was actually attracted to them.

       Two of our other Saints, Jamaila & Blarney, were show dogs that couldn’t be shown for various reasons–I doubt that either would have been a good hunting dog; while the remaining one, Misty, was all companion dog–centered on my wife.

   Was the dog identified as a Saint cross, or is that a guess? Where was the photo taken (what country)?

     It was identified as such, and the dog was photographed in Nebraska.
