Now if we can just extend this policy to wolves.
Unfortunately, commercial trappers are the only ones who see wolves as a valuable resource. Recreational trappers and recreational hunters just see them as competition for livestock and deer.
Fortunately, Canada has a number of trappers who want to see wolves. On the other hand, trappers are losing their voice as the numbers are declining and the elk-hunters and ranchers are beating the war-drums. So, it’s difficult to tell how long before the anti-wolf lobby dominate the conversation.
massugu,
Anti-wolf lobby is known for lying, quoting incorrect numbers and referencing inauthentic sources of information. For example, see this article from an anti-wolf lobbyist:
http://www.heraldandnews.com/members/forum/guest_commentary/article_1f0b6f96-c200-11e3-9cff-001a4bcf887a.html
And then read this rebuttal:
http://www.thewildlifenews.com/2014/04/17/a-response-to-paul-clarks-editorial-on-wolves-in-herald-news/
What an excellent rebuttal. Somehow I would imagine that wolves are blamed for many of the problems caused by domestic dogs. Only the other day a neighbours mob of sheep was attacked by a Rhodesian x Staffy. It chewed on one of the sheep and ate its ear down to the skull and then took huge chunks out of its neck, all while it was still alive. So the pic of the sheep with all the blood on it, could have been done by anything.
And this aspect has been thoroughly covered by pro-wolves group, but the anti-wolves lobby remains heedless.
