Only about a four-footer, but it’s one of my favorite animals!
This is the Eastern ratsnake (Pantherophis alleghaniensis) or the Western ratsnake (Pantherophis obsoletus).
The taxonomy of these snakes is still being hotly contested, and historically, all of these big black snakes were just one species.
